Department of Information Technology & Computer Engineering (IT&CE) established in 2007 in Kabul polytechnic university in IT center ,which started it’s activity with 35 student who were introduced from 2007 Kancore Exam for the first time. 
The IT center building was built with support of KOICA foundation of South Korea with two lecture rooms, two laboratories and one conference hall equipped with all modern tools and accessories . 
For the first time the Curriculum of IT&CE department was developed by lecturer of this department with coordination of some specialist, in 2008 this curriculum was reviewed and approved by didactic council of department. In less than two years this department could rapidly improve and promote to faculty of computer science.

This faculty also provides services to construction engineering faculty, Electromechanic engineering faculty and geology & mine engineering faculty, this services include teaching ICT Skills, Advance ICT Skills and programming subjects moreover.
In this faculty for the first year the student studies the general computer science subjects ,for the second year the students divide to specialty departments, this faculty have decided to divide apart the students of second year to department of" computing & information science” and “ information technology” considering the needs of country and it’s own cadre capacity. 
In department meeting the faculty have agreed and approved the proposed curriculum and syllabus where it matches the world latest standards and criterion. The faculty of computer science in Kabul polytechnic university includes four departments as follows: 

The computer engineering department shall be activated in 2010, after collation of NATO project that includes laboratory equipment, other related faculty’s educational tools and trained lecturers. The software engineering department will be activated soon after sufficient cadre capacity enhancement.

Mission:


The Faculty of Computer Science is a community of faculty, staff and students at KPU, center in the discipline of computer science. The members of this community seek to establish, maintain, and advance a broad understanding of computer science, engineering and information technology in order to fulfill their academic and professional goals.

Goals:


  • The students obtain breadth knowledge of the subject areas in their major in Computer Science, Engineering and Information Technology.

  • The students become able to use their knowledge to supply the needs of Afghanistan.

  • The students will be able to expand their knowledge and skills in the related area through research and self-directed study.

  • The faculty provides up to date curriculum, courses, laboratories and equipments in support of learning program outcomes.
