KPU is the second largest university, which was established on 13th of October 1963 in an area of 60 hectares, in district 5 of Kabul city. In 1967 the lecture rooms and laboratories were built and ready to be used.

Since its establishment, KPU has produced more than 4500 graduates in different fields, who have been favorably received by the public and private sectors. Also graduates have been accepted for higher education at leading universities all over the world, through scholarships. KPU now operates under registration of Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE).
