The IT Conference took place for two days (1- 2 of
Sep, 2007) in the Conference Hall of the
MoHE, Kabul
Afghanistan. One of the most important aims of the conference was to
bring the representatives of the Afghan government, the Afghan
universities, non-government organizations as well as International
experts together and discuss on the basis of the "National IT Strategy
for Higher Education in Afghanistan", the following points:
- which actions have to be taken to abolish shortage
of IT lecturers at the universities,
- which educational concepts, in consideration of the
situation in Afghanistan, are relevant for this and
- in what ways can the IT education and further
training of the university employees be improved.
The following points were focused in the IT
Conference:
- The role of IT in education
- Presentation of current projects
- Formulation of common aims
on the basis of the recommendations of the first and second part of the
IT Conferences in Afghanistan.
- Creation of a coordination platform to support IT
in education.
The conference was organized by the IT department of
the
MoHE in cooperation
with the Technical University of Berlin and financially supported by the
German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
At the end of the conference the organizers hoped for
an agreement, and clarification of who is willing to take care of which
tasks of IT like:
- Working out a consistent IT curriculum
- Dispatching IT experts
- IT training for University employees
- IT education for students and lecturers within the
framework of an exchange program
- Providing hardware and design of a network for the
university campuses
- Funding of equipment, ongoing costs and Internet
access
On the second day of conference, the IT Center of
Kabul Polytechnic University (KOICA) was represented by Assis. Prof.
Humaira Akhtari
(IT lecturer in KPU).
